So the rumour around the social town is Myspace is finished. The calls of "Who still uses Myspace?" and "Thats soo 2006" ring out through the e-halls. That is unless, you speak to music artists, if you speak to them i am sure a large majority will point you to their myspace page. No matter how many tweets and twitter apps come out, or how many active facebook users have eclipsed myspace- people still go there to check out the latest uploaded tunes. Its the music wiki. Our first source of getting to know the artist. So it is little wonder why Myspace have continued to invest into their music facilities, and is the reason why they topped the Aussie music sites with Myspace Music.
Nielson revealed that Myspace Music attracted 2.38 million unique hits in December 2009, about 8 times as much as the runner up take40.com
“The immediate impact of MySpace Music emphasises the demand for content driven social media within the 13-30 age bracket. As the trend for brands to align with music continues to gain momentum, MySpace Music is offering unique opportunities for advertisers to develop strategies around the interests of their target audiences,” said Andrew Cordwell, national sales director – Australia New Zealand.
Launched in October 2009, you can stream a catalogue of music (this catalogue depends on participating labels - EMI, Sony, Warner and Universal Music Groups). I remember when it launched, they had a little fan fair at circular key - a myspace tent. A female model was trying to show me the new Myspace music system, i say trying because it seemed the network kept crashing - however the potential i could see was there besides the fact a lot of people stream music at work and i would imagine a large percentage of workplaces ban Myspace. Regardless, this is a good thing for artists - it means you are still on the right track by having your tracks on the social media site. It means Myspace have their target audience 13-30, and it proves there is plenty of room to advertise to that market
Myspace might be in the decline overall but they do have what other social sites can't seem to get a hold of ever since - dominant social music sharing. It seems Facebook realises that and so does Myspace. Leading to to FanVideo using Facebook Connect (if you are in Australia like me, you wont be able to see it yet - as of 15th Jan 2010).

Once logged into Facebook on the Fan Video page, the app allows you to mashup a selection of eight music videos that prominently feature your Facebook profile picture. Once you make your mashup, you can either share it with your friends on Facebook or select one of your friends to be featured in the videos and share it with them. CNet Jan 14th 2010
Showing a sign of things to come it would seem. Social media needs to be well...social.
